Shaker Police Collecting Donations For The Troops Memorial Day Weekend

The Shaker Heights Police Department will be collecting donations at Heinen's this weekend for troops stationed overseas.

The Shaker Heights Police department is collecting items and cash donations in an effort to send care packages to troops stationed overseas.

Police officers will be collecting donated items in the department's annual "Fill The Cruiser" event Friday through Sunday at Heinen's at 16611 Chagrin Boulevard.

The cruiser will be parked at Heinen's and accepting donations from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Patrolman Laura Clague organized the event and said its a chance for residents to help make the troops "time away from home and their families a bit more bearable."

Clague said they are accepting a wide range of items, from toiletries to snacks. Check out the PDF attached to this article to see a list of the kinds of items you should bring.

She said they are also accepting cash donations to pay for shipping the items overseas.
