Solon High School Lockdown Lifted, No Weapons Found

SALON, OH — Solon High School is no longer on lockdown, the Solon City School District confirmed shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

The school went on lockdown for several hours after a bullet was found in a gym locker that morning, school officials said. Police then conducted a thorough search of the school building.

"The search was done in an abundance of caution when a bullet was found in a gym locker and a student subsequently reported a rumor regarding a gun on school grounds," the district said in a message to parents.

Solon High School administration and Solon police searched student backpacks, lockers and other areas of the schools with mutual aid from additional law enforcement, including agencies with explosive detecting canines trained to detect weapons.

In the end, school officials said no weapons were found.

During the search, students remained in their classrooms with their teachers.

"This was far from a normal school day, but absolutely necessary. We will not take chances with student safety," said Tamara Strom, the school district's spokesperson.
