Solon Students Win National Merit Scholarships
The latest round of National Merit Scholarship winners includes two students who call Solon home.
SOLON, OH — Two Solon students are among the latest batch of National Merit Scholarship recipients.
Emily D. Ye, a Solon High student, received a scholarship to attend Case Western Reserve University. Ye intends to study actuarial science. Rachael C. Zhan, a Hathaway Brown student, will attend Arizona State University, where she plans to study aerospace engineering.
The latest round of scholarship recipients received between $500 and $2,000 annually, for four years, through their chosen college or institution. Students were selected from a pool of National Merit Scholarship finalists.

More than 1.5 million students applied for the highly competitive scholarship when they took the PSAT/SAT and the program says that approximately 7,500 students will win scholarships in 2021. Semifinalist had to write essays detailing their extracurricular activities, awards, and leadership positions to become finalists.
