'Stay Off Roads' When Snow Starts, Solon Police Ask Residents

Solon police are asking residents to avoid driving, if possible, when this week's winter storm begins.

SOLON, OH — A "significant" winter storm is possible this week in northern Ohio and Solon police want to limit the number of cars on the roads when snow starts falling.

Precipitation will begin as rain on Wednesday but could turn to snow or freezing rain on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. With winds expected to hit 11 to 15 mph, visibility will also be a concern during the storm.

Between 9 and 14 inches of snow could fall from Wednesday evening through Friday morning, the National Weather Service said.

"When this begins, please try to stay off the roads to allow the plows to do their jobs safely. Also, when snowfall exceeds 2 inches, on street parking is prohibited," Solon police said on Facebook on Tuesday.

The Ohio Department of Transportation similarly warned drivers that travel would be "extremely difficult" during the storm — even with all of the department's plows working around the clock to clear roads.
