WRSC Announces Enrollment For Safety Programs

Beginning July 5, Western Reserve Safety Council will be starting safety programs for workers to help reduce accidents in the workplace.

From WRSC: This year marks Western Reserve Safety Council (WRSC) 4th year of the partnership with Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC). WRSCs’ commitment to health and safety issues in the workplace continue during 2017-18 with programs that help businesses provide a safer environment for their employees while mitigating risk and reducing costs. WRSC is taking open enrollment for the next fiscal year and programs beginning July 5, 2017. Sign up (or transfer) by July 15th to be eligible for membership benefits which include BWC Premium rebates up to 4% just for attending 80% of the monthly safety council meetings; Assistance with applying for safety grants of up to $40,000 and other incentives.

Beginning July 5, 2017, the Programs are held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at Mustard Seed Market, 6025 Kruse Drive in Solon. Twelve programs scheduled for 2017-2018 includes:

  • Audits, Stats and Fatalities - OSHA Enforcement Update
  • Lockout/Tagout
  • When and Where Will My Next Accident Occur? Predictive Analytics in Safety
  • Safety Leadership Responsibility - Words and Wisdom from a Safety Leader
  • Slips, Trips & Falls - Are You Proactive or Reactive?
  • Is Stress a Workplace Safety Hazard?
  • Safety Teams - Beyond the Safety Committee-How Are They Working Now?
  • First Aid in the Workplace
  • How Do You Establish a Safety Culture and Measure the Effectiveness?
  • Leadership for Safety Culture and Safety Awards
  • Globalized Harmonized System for Hazard Communications

The WRSC is a collaborative effort of the Solon, Twinsburg, Hudson, Aurora, Beachwood and Chagrin Valley Chambers of Commerce. Established in 2014, The WRSC, is open to all area businesses, not-for-profits and government entities. The mission of the safety council is to provide a forum for the presentation of health and safety issues and exchange ideas and concepts for best practices in the workplace with an emphasis on regulatory compliance (e.g. OSHA, EPA rules and regulations, among others). WRSC serves Solon and surrounding communities.

Participating companies and other entities with active BWC accounts will be eligible for two to four percent rebates on their workers’ compensation premiums in return for completing the necessary paperwork and attending at least 80 percent of the monthly safety meetings during a fiscal year. Companies who are self-insured are also encouraged to participate.

Companies and other organizations may join at any time but must enroll by July 15, 2017 to qualify for their BWC premium rebates next year. Entities can be members of more than one safety council but will only receive BWC credits for attending one. Additionally, members can have more than one representative in attendance but will only get credit for attending one meeting.

Annual membership fees are $50 for Chamber members of any local chamber of commerce and $100 for non-members. The monthly programs are $25 and include a buffet lunch. Sponsorships are available. Businesses or other organizations wishing to sponsor or join the safety council should contact the Solon Chamber office at 440-248-5080.
