OHIO — A third COVID-19 vaccine will be available to immunocompromised Ohioans at Giant Eagle, the company announced Monday.

The vaccines are available immediately. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the FDA approved third vaccine doses for moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals this week.

Anyone seeking a third vaccine must receive a dose from the same manufacturer who created their first two vaccines. For example, if you received two Pfizer doses, the third dose must also be a Pfizer.

"The additional dose can be administered at least 28 days after you received your second dose," Giant Eagle said in a statement.

No appointments are necessary to receive a third vaccine. Individuals can simply show up at a Giant Eagle Pharmacy, attest to their immunocompromised status, and receive a shot.

On Friday, the Ohio Department of Health said immunocompromised individuals should speak to their doctors before getting a third vaccine, News 5 reported. Officials said Ohioans who are not immunocompromised should not receive a third dose at this time.
