5 Dogs in 5 Hot Cars Get Attention from Strongsville Police
Passersby are quick to report potential pup problems during heat wave

People are keeping an eye out for dogs in distress in hot vehicles, according to Strongsville police reports.Â
Four of the reports came in on the same day, July 16.
1. At Walmart July 13, someone reported a dog panting in a car. Police found the owner was only in the store 10 minutes; the dog was fine.
2. Employees at the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center worried about a dog left in a car for an hour. Police found the dog had water and was fine -- it wasn't 6 a.m. yet, so the sun wasn't an issue.
3. Police gave a warning to a dog owner who was in Johnny Malloy's for at least a half hour. The windows were open and the pup had water, but the man was advised not to leave a dog in a car with temperatures in the 90s.
4. At about 8 p.m. July 16, a witness reported two dogs barking in a car outside Heinen's. Police found all the windows down; the dogs were not in distress.
5. A dog was only in the car about 10 minutes, but a witness was concerned about 6:50 p.m. July 16 when the owners went into Panini's and got a table. Police found the dog was fine -- the vehicle was parked in the shade and the windows were down. But after an officer spoke with the owners, they decided to get their meal to go and take the dog home.
