5 Things to Know about the November Election in Strongsville

Here are the School Board candidates and other things on the ballot

1. There'll be race for Strongsville School Board. Four candidates filed to run for two open seats: Incumbent Jennifer Sinisgalli and newcomers George Grozan, Duke Evans and Sujata Emani. Board President David Frazee is not seeking re-election. (Check Strongsville Patch on Wednesday for more information on the school board race).

2. The City Council race was set in February, but here's a recap of the five candidates seeking the three open at-large seats: Incumbents Joe DeMio, Ken Dooner and Duke Southworth are running for another term. They will be challenged by Dave Gusman, a former Strongsville school board member, and Ruth Brickley, a current school board member.

3. Voters will decide a rezoning. The owners of a daycare center on Howe Road want to build a senior living facility next door. The issue seeks to change the zoning on a four-acre parcel from R1-75 (single family) to SR-2 (senior).

4. A tax increase awaits. Strongsville is asking for a 1.4-mill levy for general expenses. It's less than the 1.5-mill levy being collected now, but would be collected at today's property values.

5. There will be two regional issues. The Cleveland Metroparks will ask voters to renew a 1.8-mill levy and increase it .9 mills; and Cuyahoga County wants to replace a 2.9-mill levy for health and human services with a 3.9-mill issue.
