Here are the top three stories in Strongsville today:

  1. Cuyahoga County residents who have relied on the pandemic-related expansion of the SNAP program may soon be losing some of their food stamps benefits. In March, the county will drop from $53 million to $30 million in benefits, which accounts for nearly half of all local SNAP benefits currently being distributed. Officials say about 212,000 people in Cuyahoga will be affected, and some could lose up to hundreds of dollars per month, depending on family size and income. SNAP recipients will soon be receiving notices from the Cuyahoga County Department of Job and Family Services about the reduction. (cleveland.com)
  2. A local family of four has been displaced after a Sunday morning house fire in nearby Brunswick Hills Township. The Strongsville Fire Department joined emergency personnel from Brunswick Hills, Hinckley Township, Valley City, and Medina to fight the blaze at a single-family home on Substation Road, which took over an hour and a half to control. All four occupants of the home escaped the fire, but one child was treated for burns and several pets died as a result. (cleveland.com)
  3. As a reminder, all Strongsville administrative offices will be closed today (Jan. 16) in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trash collection schedules will not be affected and the Strongsville Recreation and Senior Center will still be open during regular hours. (City of Strongsville Government via Facebook)
