Driver Takes Police on High Speed Chase Through Neighborhood

Man flees officer until he's trapped on cul de sac

A 28-year-old Strongsville man led police on a chase at speeds of up to 100 mph early May 26, fleeing on Pearl, Boston and Saratoga.

A report said the driver failed to stop for police shortly before 1 a.m. on Pear at Lunn Road, instead racing south on Pearl at 80 p.m.

The vehicle reached 100 mph as it sped south up Stoney Hill before turning east on Boston Road.

With officers in pursuit, the man turned onto Brittany Place, went around the circle and headed west on Boston.

He turned onto Saratoga Trail, then onto Monterey Pine and Blue Point, then was trapped trying to exit the development.

Detective Lt. John Janowski said the man apparently fled because he had a felony warrant for his arrest for a probation violation.

He has a second felony charge now. He was charged with fleeing and eluding an officer.

Car Fire May Be Arson

A Vermilion man staying at the Holiday Inn for the recent polka convention came out to find his car on fire early May 27.

Janowski said a man pumping gas at the Shell station about 3:20 a.m. saw the car in the lot next door in flames.

The fire appeared to start near the gas tank, indicating a possible arson, Janowski said.

The victim told police he had no idea who would target his car.
