Patton Announces Ohio’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday

State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) announces Ohio’s annual sales tax holiday will be August 6-8. The holiday marks the weekend where Ohioans will not have to pay state sales and use taxes on clothing items, school supplies and school instructional materials up to a certain price.

Patton was a cosponsor of Senate Bill 226 from the 132nd General Assembly, which made the sales tax holiday permanent.

“Prices of school and clothing supplies can certainly add up this time of year,” said Patton. “As students head back to school, this is the perfect opportunity to save some money with the sales tax holiday while shopping for your children.”

Each year, the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of August exempt the following items from state and local sales and use tax:

· Clothing items priced at $75 or less;

· School supplies priced at $20 or less; and

· School instructional materials prices at $20 or less.

State lawmakers approved legislation to make the sales tax holiday a yearly event to provide additional tax relief for Ohioans during back-to-school season. There is no limit on the number of items, and the exemption is eligible for online purchases, as well.
