Here are the top three stories in Strongsville today:
- The Cuyahoga County Council is considering a Pay-to-Stay ordinance that would prevent landlords from evicting tenants for late rent payments, extending protections county-wide. Tenants would have the right to stay in their home if they pay all past due rent and reasonable late fees, defined as no more than $25 per month or up to five percent of monthly rent. The ordinance would allow tenants to make payments and court costs up until their eviction hearing; however, it does not prevent landlords from evicting tenants for other reasons. (Cleveland.com)
- The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office has indicted 11 current and former officers of the East Cleveland Police Department on multiple charges, including assault, dereliction of duty, and interfering with civil rights. Seven of the charged defendants are facing first-time charges, while the remaining four have been indicted on new charges. The indictments come after authorities released videos of several incidents within the department between February 2020 and July 2022. (CBS 58)
- Another wave of store closures is headed to Ohio. Among this year's shuttering shops are multiple Bed Bath & Beyond locations, including the Strongsville store on Royalton Road, as well as several Tuesday Morning locations across the state. This pattern of major retailers closing has been seen not just across Ohio, but throughout the country. (NewsBreak Original)
