Police Blotter: Big Bill from Library; Driver Thinks He Sees a Gun

A Lake Meadows Drive woman got billed for more than $300 in late fees from the Cuyahoga County Public Library after someone apparently started using her card.

The woman told police she hasn't used her library card since 2009 and has been out of state.

But in 2010, someone with a similar first name started using her library card at the Brooklyn branch.

She filed the report so she can be excused from paying the fines.

Gun on the Road?

An off-duty Cleveland police officer reported that another driver may have pointed a handgun at him on I-71 about 2 a.m. Jan. 5.

A report said the incident stemmed from a road rage incident in which the officer allegedly cut off another driver.

As they traveled north, the suspect reportedly swerved around the officer going about 80 mph and pointed what looked like a gun.

Police were able to stop the suspected gunman, who admitted to making a rude gesture, he said he did not point a gun. He consented to a search of his car; no gun was found. 

He was warned about his driving habits.

Mailbox Down

An officer spotted a mailbox lying in the road on Alameda Drive about 5:50 a.m. Jan. 6.

He located the home where it belonged and noted it had either been struck or pulled out.

It wasn't damaged. The officer placed it in the owner's yard.
