Stolen Car Hits Home As Police Chase Suspects Through Medina

Two juveniles are in custody after Medina and Strongsville police pursued a pair of suspected car thieves through the city.

STRONGSVILLE, OH — A stolen car crashed into a Medina home on Wednesday night as police chased a pair of suspected car thieves.

At 11:30 p.m., Medina police were called to Winston Circle after residents reported seeing a pair of suspicious men trying to break into a car. One of the residents confronted the duo, causing them to run away, police said.

One of the suspects pulled out a gun, while running away, and fired a round at the resident, police said. Luckily, no one was hurt in the gunfire.

As officers scoured the area, a second 911 call came in reporting that a car had just been stolen out of a driveway on Chadwick Lane, a street over from Winston Circle. As police took the call, the stolen car zoomed by going south on Abbeyville Road, police said.

Officers tried to stop the car but it sped up and flew west onto Liberty Street.

The stolen car turned onto Eden Lane and the driver jumped out of the moving car. The car rolled forward, driverless, and hit a home. The house was badly damaged but no one was hurt, police said.

The driver and a passenger were both taken into custody by police. Officers found a handgun in their possession.

The suspects are both juveniles from Cuyahoga County, police said, and are currently being held at Medina County Juvenile Detention Center while charges against them are considered, police added.

Earlier this week, on Monday night, several unlocked cars were rifled through in Strongsville and one car was stolen out of a driveway. Police said the car was unlocked and the keys were visible inside.

It's unclear if the Strongsville thefts are connected to the Medina suspects. Strongsville Police Chief Mark Fender said his officers are investigating to see if there's a connection.
