Here are the top three stories in Strongsville today:

  1. Over the last two months, Strongsville police officers have received 16 reports of checks stolen from the mail in the city. According to police, most of the victims mailed the checks using a USPS drive-through blue box. The checks were then altered and cashed for thousands of dollars. One victim, only identified as Linda, wrote two checks for $20 each; the checks were then changed by the suspects to total $9,300. Linda said, "The date and signature were mine, but everything else was altered on the check and you could see the whiteout." The Strongsville police suggested that people use "alternative payment methods like paying electronically or walking into the post office to mail checks." (Fox 8)
  2. The boil alert was lifted yesterday, Feb. 1, at 6 a.m. for residents living along Drake Road in Strongsville. Cleveland Water received results that showed no pathogens were present in any of the water samples taken from 40 locations in the advisory area. The boil alert was issued Tuesday, Jan. 31 due to possible water supply contamination after a water main break on Drake Road near the Saratoga Trail. (Fox 8)
  3. Union Home Mortgage Corp., based in Strongsville, was named one of the top workplaces in the U.S., according to the "2023 Top Workplaces USA" survey.
