Here are the top three stories today in and around Strongsville:
- After an emotionally unforgettable trip, three Northeast Ohio women and their Crisis Response Canines have returned home after their healing mission following the Michigan State shooting. The volunteers described the outpouring of emotion and relief of stress from the students as they pet the support dogs. Administering "emotional first aid" can be very tiring both for the women and the dogs, they told Cleveland 19 News; however, all agreed that the satisfaction they derive from providing this support is worth it. (Cleveland 19 News)
- Two brothers faced off in the Michigan vs. Ohio State hockey game at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland Saturday. Tyler Duke, a freshman at Ohio State, and Dylan Duke, a sophomore at Michigan, were both born in Strongsville and grew up playing hockey together. Despite the "sibling rivalry," the game was a dream come true for both the players and their families, as everyone has had the game highlighted on their calendars since this summer. (Spectrum News 1)
- Mildred "Midge" Fiest of nearby Vienna, Ohio passed away Thursday at Trumbull Regional Medical Center. Mildred was a longtime member of the Vienna United Methodist Church and also volunteered at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 37 years. Per Mildred's wishes, she was cremated and a private graveside service will be planned for a later date, arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. (WKBN.com)
