The incident dominated Monday’s Sylvania school board meeting, prompting added security, indoor recess, and a review of safety and communication protocols as officials work to prevent a repeat.

Kamryn Hunt Named An AVCA All-American Honorable Mention For #UDVB (daytonflyers.com) — A Sylvania native is making national waves in college volleyball, earning AVCA All-American Honorable Mention in her first season with the University of Dayton. Friends and teammates shared memories, pledged to dedicate their cheer season to her, and campus officials are offering counseling while state troopers continue investigating the crash.
   

4. Health department shares tips as two schools close due to high rates of illness (wtol.com) — Families in and around Sylvania are seeing nearby schools close early for winter break as flu and norovirus-like illnesses sideline up to 27% of students in some Lucas County districts. Health officials say they typically act when 20–25% of students are sick and are urging strict handwashing, surface cleaning, and keeping kids home at least 24 hours after fevers or stomach symptoms end.
   

5. Judith A. Kaminski (sent-trib.com) — Sylvania readers may recognize the Kaminski family, as Judith A. Kaminski’s son John and his family live in Sylvania. Judith, 81, of Bowling Green, passed away December 10 and is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, with a memorial service to be announced later in Pemberville.
