Relay Kicks Off Early This Year

Twinsburg/Nordonia Relay for Life is hosting an open house at the Twinsburg Public Library on Dec. 5.

Hope big. Think big. Relay big.

That’s what 2013Β Twinsburg/Nordonia Relay for Life co-chairs Beth Noga and Jennie Dawes want local residents to do toΒ help fight back against cancer.

The Relay for Life season kicks off officially next Wednesday,Β Dec. 5 with an open house at the Twinsburg Public Library from 7 to 8 p.m.

Visitors canΒ learn about teams and sign up, find out how survivors can participate, and discover specialΒ activities and fundraising ideas to make Relay for Life fun and successful.

The 2013 Relay For Life takes place June 7-8, 2013 at Twinsburg Tiger Stadium.

Volunteers areΒ already rallying friends, coworkers, community members and businesses to form teams or join the steering committee to share their special talents.

β€œRelay for Life is critical to funding the local programs that help cancer patients and their familiesΒ in our communities,” Co-chair Jennie Dawes said in a press release. β€œIt’s a truly fun and inspiring event that bringsΒ together people from all over both communities under one single mission: Beat cancer.”

According to the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three womenΒ will hear the words, β€œYou have cancer” in 2013.

Co-Chair Beth Noga said the December open house will be a relaxed way to learn more aboutΒ Relay and all the supports in place to help teams be successful.

β€œEveryone can contributeΒ something,” Noga said. β€œOur communities are full of people with energy, big hearts and greatΒ ideas and we are here to help put those ideas to work fighting cancer.”

Some of the new ideasΒ proposed for this year include β€œBark for Life” and β€œRelay Field Day.”
