23-Year-Old Tried To Break Into Westlake Home On Thanksgiving: PD

The man drove his car through a garage door and used a baseball bat to try and get inside the home, police said.

WESTLAKE, OH โ€” A Parma man tried to break into a Westlake home using a baseball bat and a golf club on Thanksgiving.

Officers found the man at 2 p.m. on Turkey day, according to a Westlake police spokesperson. He backed his car through the overhead garage door of the Vine Street home he was attacking, but was not able to get inside the house before officers took him into custody, police added.

The 23-year-old Parma resident told police he had a medical condition and was taken to St. John Medical Center for an evaluation.

No one was home during the incident. There appeared to be no structural damage to the house, police said.

Police believe the 23-year-old has "some level of pre-existing relationship" with the residents, though they did not reveal what that relationship is.

The 23-year-old had an active warrant from Rocky River police for an assault charge that was filed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Police said they may ask for felony burglary charges to be filed against the 23-year-old on behalf of Westlake police.
