52 Percent Female and Well Educated in Westlake: Five U.S. Census Facts

Feel like there are just not enough men in town? (Or maybe 48 percent is enough).

There’s a reason for that.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Westlake is 52.6 percent female (which is 1.4 percent above Ohio, as a state’s, average.

Here are five facts about Westlake that we pulled from the U.S. Census Bureau.

1.     Vacant homes at 8 percent: There are 14,258 housing units in the city. 92.2 percent are occupied.

2.     Westlake commutes, but not together: 15,689 of those working commute to work; 1204 of those carpooled in 2010.

3.     $$$$$: Westlake is well above the norm for household income. According to the 2010 Census, 1248 households had an income that exceeded $200,000. That’s just above 9 percent of households, compared to 2.8 percent of Ohioans. Another 1207 households have incomes between $150,000 - $200,000. The highest bracket? The $50,000 - $75,000, with 2,536 households bringing in this much annually.

4.     2.7 percent of households are below the poverty level in 2010. This was far below the state average of 10.8 percent. It may be related to education: More than 50 percent of those older than 25 in Westlake have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

5.     Married? In Westlake 54.7 households are run by married couples.
