Alfalfa Sprouts Recalled Because of Listeria

Check your produce bin!

An area produce company is recalling all its alfalfa sprouts because of a possible listeria contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that Cleveland Beansprouts Co. alfalfa sprouts may be contaminated withย Listeria monocytogenes.

In healthy people, Listeria monocytogenes can causeย high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. But it is especially dangerous for pregnant woman, possibly causing miscarriage or stillbirth. People with compromised immune systems can get serious or fatal infections.

The does not carry Cleveland Beansprouts Co. alfalfa sprouts. But, if you shop elsewhere and buy alfalfa sprouts, check the container. The affected sprouts were distrubted only in Ohio, the FDA said. If you have Cleveland Beansprouts Co. alfalfa sprouts, throw them out.
