French Students Finish in Top 10, Inducted Into WHS French Honor Society

Westlake High School French students participated in the 78^th annual Grand Concours and came away with several Top 10 national finishes.

The Grand Concours is a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills. More than 100,000 students in all 50 states competed in the 2010 event. Participants in the 2012 Grand Concours were students of Laura Emmer, Nicolette Miller and Elizabeth Zingales.

Certificates d’honneur were earned by 12 students, and certificates de reussite were earned by 35 students. The following students received certificates of recognition for their scores and placement in the Top 10 nationally: Emma Franklin, Jessica Hook, Xiaopei Liu, Leah Franklin, Jacob Kraft, Maryam Ahmad,  Nicolas Cal Craven and Lucia Del Rincon Martinez.  

Also this week, 30 Westlake High School students were inducted April 18 into La Societe Honoraire de Francais, the chartered local chapter of the French honor society.

The society strives to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievement, to create enthusiasm for and understanding of francophone culture and civilization, to promote and perpetuate international friendship and to reward efforts toward furthering solidarity in the French-speaking world.

The new inductees are:

Kent Axcell, Sydney Bell, Sean Bernath, Julia Chen, Madeline Chernosky,  Juliana Coelho, Sela Cunningham, Nicole Dossa, Kayla Dunlap, Perry Elyaderani, Katherine Garruto, Caroline Gray, Nicole Hall, Jada Harris, Krystina Horvath, Morgan Jenkins, Grace Karabinus, Gagan Kaur, Sameena Khan, John Liggett, 1. Megan Lindholm, Maureen Matousek, Mark Matzinger, Austin Moran, Apshara Ravichandran, Brianna Sokol, Rachel Thomascik, Haley Ward, Aly Wong and Hannah Yusoff.

WHS French teachers are Laura Emmer, Nicolette Miller and Elizabeth Zingales.
