Have You Lost Someone to Cancer? Westlake Relay for Life Event Kicks Off May 14

The Westlake Relay for Life is readying its kick off with a night of food, drink specials, games and prizes on Tuesday, May 14 at The Rusty Barrel in Westlake.

This year’s Relay For Life of Westlake will be held on July 13 starting at 2 p.m. at the 28955 Hilliard Blvd.

The kick off party is open to anyone interesting in participating in this year’s race including walkers, volunteers and organizers. The event will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Event organizer Rick Grane said more than 300 people, including 20 teams and 80 survivors participated last year.

For Grane, raising money to research and fight cancer is personal.

“I have lost almost my whole family to cancer,” Grane said. “My wife, sister, father, grandparent, aunts and uncles and cousins.

"I walk in their memory so maybe in the future I won't have to walk."

10 percent of all purchases made that night will benefit the Relay.
