Medication Disposal Set for Saturday

Check your medicine cabinets

If you have expired, or no-longer-needed medication in your home, getting rid of it can be a problem.

Put it in the trash? Either someone looking for drugs could get their hands on it, or it will end up in a landfill and, eventually, our groundwater.

Flush it down the toilet? You're putting it right into the water supply, where it could affect fish, plants and, eventually, us.

There's a better solution. Saturday is Operation Medicine Cabinet.

The event is part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, said Westlake police Capt. Guy Turner.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, you can drop off medication at the .

According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, more than 188 tons of medication were dropped off at law enforcement agencies nationwide in the Oct. 2011 Take-Back Day.
