Sewer Bills Will Reflect Increased Water Rates
Rates that increased July 1 are reflected in this month's bill.
Sewer bills are heading out his week. Don't be surprised if your bill is a little larger this quarter.
In May, council passed an ordinance approving the rate, which increased July 1. This marks the first bill since the increase.
“We haven’t had a sewer increase since 1986,” Council President Michael Killeen said at the time. “It’s the cost of providing the service.”
Four categories will see an increase. Single-family homes will increase to $40 a quarter. Two -family homes will increase to $50 per quarter and apartment and industrial will increase to $17.50 per quarter based on water usage.
Even with the increase, the cost for apartments is still below the 1985 cost.

Maintenance of the infrastructure of sewer lines and payments to the Rocky River Treatment Plant have risen consistently and are expected to continue to rise due to additional EPA mandates.
Non-compliance of the mandates could result in substantial penalties for all the communities that are part of the treatment plant.
