Westlake Police Blotter: Teenage 'Steeplejacks' Scale High School Roof, Need Help Getting Down

Always have an exit plan, particularly when you are trespassing on the roof of the high school.

WESTLAKE, OH — Summer is in full swing so people are doing questionable things outside. Read on about how a group of teenage "steeplejacks" got caught scaling the high school roof and how they got down. Also, learn why you shouldn't interfere when authorities are assisting an intoxicated person while they are vomiting.

Domestic Violence, June 17 — A 26-year-old Cleveland man and an 18-year-old Cleveland woman had a fight while travelling along I90 westbound on June 17. Westlake Police did not locate them, however, Sheffield Village police found them in their community. It was determined that the male hit the female (who is 5 months along with his child and would not cooperate with officers), giving her a bloody nose and a lump under her left eye. He was arrested for Domestic Violence.

Disorderly Conduct, June 17 — An intoxicated 49-year-old Winchester Dr. woman kept interfering with police and fire dept. efforts to aid her intoxicated 22-year-old son on June 17. She kept shaking his head while he vomited; after repeated instructions to step away, she was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.

Theft, June 19 — Three males ran out on a $40 cab fare on Regency Cr. on June 19. They had been driven into Cleveland and back, then took off through backyards.

Theft, June 17 — A $21,000 tar machine, supplies, and 2 leaf blowers were stolen from a Ranney Pkwy. business sometime June 17-19. They belonged to a Cleveland man who had been doing work there.

A 45-year-old Mendelssohn Dr. man broke off the relationship with his 42-year-old live-in girlfriend on June 19. She refused to pay any more rent to him and return the 2 cellphones he allowed her and her 17-year-old son to use. There was a struggle over the son’s phone; no one was injured. The City Prosecutor will review the matter.

At least 2 homes were egged on Durham Dr. on the night of June 19. The residents heard the impacts apprx. 10:30PM.

A North Ridgeville woman hit a Center Ridge Rd. building on June 20. While pulling into a parking space, she hit the gas instead of the brake. She declined medical attention.

A Strawberry Ln. woman reports a family member took her 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt and debit card on June 20. $446 in charges were made and warrants for Misuse of Credit Cards and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle were obtained. The owner recovered it the next day in a Center Ridge Rd. parking lot.

Domestic Violence, June 21 — An intoxicated 21-year-old Glenmore Dr. man refused to let his 26-year-old Middleburg Hts. girlfriend leave after punching and choking her on June 21. He ran from officers, then ducked back into the house and obscenely taunted them from a window. When he opened the slider to taunt them a second time, he was yanked out and arrested for DV.

Snake in a Yard — A Bobby Ln. woman called about a 4-foot snake behind her home on June 22. Intrepid WPD patrolmen/herpetologists corralled the slithering reptile; a South Euclid serpent rescue group took custody of the reptile.

Trespassing, Curfew, June 22 — Three Westlake males climbed onto the roof of the High School on June 22. They were removed with the help of a Westlake FD ladder truck. The 18-year-old will be summonsed for Trespassing, as will a 17-year-old. The 15-year-old junior steeplejack will also be charged with a curfew violation.

Driving Under the Influence, June 23 — A 29-year-old Westlake woman sheared off a Cahoon Rd. fire hydrant with her SUV on June 23. She was arrested for OVI and refused a breath test. She was also cited for Failure to Control and Driving on Tree lawns
