Westlake's Porter Public Library Gets 5 Star Rating

The Library Journal released its latest rankings and Westlake's public library received the highest-possible honors.

WESTLAKE, OH โ€” The Westlake Porter Public Library was awarded five stars from the Library Journal's Index of Public Library Service.

Five-star ratings are reserved for the U.S.'s top library systems and branches. The newly released report is based on 2019 statistics and does not yet fully reflect the impact of COVID-19 on communities.

The library system moved up from a previous four-star ranking to a five-star ranking in this year's list, according to the Library Journal.

"Behind those statistics are the many people who have come to the library looking for somethingโ€” we are honored you have found us!" the library said in a statement on its website.

The Porter Public Library's physical circulation was 30.26 circulations per capita in its service area (of nearly 33,000 residents). That means approximately 30 items were circulated for every resident in Westlake.

According to Library Journal data, there were approximately 10 library visits per Westlake resident, there were nearly 30 WiFi sessions per resident, and more than two electronic items were circulated per resident.

The Library Journal has published its Index of Public Library Service for the past 14 years.
