WHS Orchestra Rates Superior at State Contest

The Westlake High School String Orchestra received unanimous “Superior” ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association’s State Orchestra Contest at Bowling Green High School.

The school was one of only 32 to receive an "A class, I" rating.

In 2010 the orchestra earned a I rating in the B class.

According to the OMEA a "I rating" is for an "outstanding performance with very few technical errors and exemplifying a truly musical expression. This rating should be reserved for the truly outstanding performance."

This is the second consecutive year WHS students have competed in the highest and most difficult class in the state. The OMEA promotes music education in elementary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities. It is one of the largest music education associations in the United States.

The OMEA is involved at all levels of music education in Ohio. The association serves more than 1.8 million public school students from 612 school districts and 51 colleges and universities. Its mission: “to foster a spirit of collaboration for the mutual benefit of all aspects of music education.”
