Ex-Tulsa Cop Acquitted In Black Man's Killing Has Case Removed From Record

All documents in Betty Jo Shelby's case will be sealed under the ruling Wednesday.

TULSA, OK — Former Tulsa police officer Betty Jo Shelby, who was acquitted in last year's shooting death of Terence Crutcher, has had the manslaughter case removed from her record after she asked to have it expunged.

All documents in Shelby's case will be sealed under District Judge William LaFortune ruling Wednesday. Her case will only be accessible by court order.

Shelby, who is white, submitted the request in August. She shot Crutcher, who was black and unarmed, after encountering him on a roadway. Crutcher's vehicle was in the middle of the street.

Shelby returned to work in an administrative role two days after her acquittal, but resigned in July, citing feelings of isolation with other officers. She was later sworn in as a reserve Rogers County sheriff's deputy.
