Oklahoma Inmate Dies After Getting Razor: Officials

The inmate requested a shaving razor and soap to shave just after noon on Saturday, the state State Bureau of Investigation said.

WILBURTON, OK — An inmate serving time for assault and drug charges died at the Latimer County Jail after asking for a shaving razor, officials said.

The inmate requested a shaving razor and soap to shave just after noon on Saturday, the state State Bureau of Investigation said in a Facebook post. Shortly after receiving the utensils, a detention deputy saw on video what he described as "suspicious movements" inside the 45-year-old man's cell, the agency said. The deputy then found the inmate covered in blood inside the cell.

Emergency personnel rushed the inmate to Latimer County Memorial Hospital with neck and wrist cuts, officials said. Doctors declared him dead just after 2 p.m.

The Latimer County Sheriff's Office asked the state bureau to investigate the death.

The inmate's is being withheld until his family can be identified.

The agency said he was jailed on Friday for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
