Here are the top stories in Oklahoma City today:
- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced that the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) is now participating in its Emergency Housing Voucher program. The program, which is available through the American Rescue Plan, provides quick rental assistance to local residents in need, sometimes securing housing in as little as two weeks. The initiative is expected to help will help hundreds of vulnerable Oklahomans, especially those facing homelessness or fleeing crisis situations. (KOKH FOX25)
- Oklahoma City police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect from a September Waffle House shooting. He is described as a heavyset Hispanic male who wore glasses and appeared to have tattoos on his arms. Officials say the suspect had argued with staff members at the Waffle House near I-40 and Meridian around midnight on Sept. 26 and then shot at the victim from a gray, four-door vehicle as he was leaving the restaurant. - The First Americans Museum will be hosting several events celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day and Native American culture beginning at 12 p.m. today, including social dances, family activities, live entertainment, a mayoral proclamation, and a panel discussion. (KFOR Oklahoma City)
- A carjacking led to an overnight standoff on Friday at Oklahoma City's Oaktree Inn and Suites. Police arrested two people, a man and a woman, in connection with the incident, but have not released details. (news9.com KWTV)
- The Oklahoma City Ballet is embracing and improving its local community with a free season-opening performance, children's enrichment programs, and in-person classes offered in partnership with the Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma. (405magazine.com)
