Here are the top three stories today in Tulsa:
- The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) is installing the first life-saving vending machine in Oklahoma, in partnership with the Tulsa Day Center. The vending machine will provide Fentanyl test strips and Naloxone, aiming to bring life-saving resources to the Tulsa community. ODMHSAS plans to deploy a total of 40 vending machines in high-prevalence overdose areas, making these essential tools easily accessible to the public. Additionally, Oklahomans can also obtain Naloxone and Fentanyl test strips for free through the okimready.org website. (KTUL)
- A stabbing incident occurred at the splash pad near 41st and Riverside in Tulsa, resulting in the death of a 71-year-old man. Tulsa police responded to the scene and discovered the victim with a stab wound to the torso. Witnesses reported that the suspect, identified as Jeffery Anderson, had been involved in an argument with the victim before the assault. He has been arrested and accused of murder, with the FBI placing a hold on him as he is a tribal member to ensure proper prosecution. (News 2 Oklahoma)
- Tuned, a digital hearing health company in Tulsa, has launched a pediatric platform to provide hearing care and screening for children aged 13 to 17. The program utilizes advanced hearing technology and knowledge to modernize a testing method that has remained unchanged for nearly 50 years. Tuned emphasizes that children with hearing loss are often neglected, misdiagnosed, and face risks of developmental delays and academic setbacks. It is worth noting that Dr. Jacqueline Scholl, the head of pediatrics at Tuned and founder of SoundWrx Inc., a hearing care-focused not-for-profit organization based in Tulsa, has been actively involved in advocating for policy changes and delivering hearing healthcare services to children in Oklahoma.
