18-Year-Old Killed In Fatal Car Crash Outside Beaver: OSP

Beaver resident Mikayla Howard collided with a semi truck on Highway 101 Friday morning. She later died from her injuries.

BEAVER, OR — An 18-year-old woman was killed in car crash last Friday when she veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a semi truck on Highway 101 north of Beaver, according to Oregon State Police.

Mikayla Michelle Howard, of Beaver, was reportedly traveling north in her silver 2003 Saab when, for unknown reasons, she crossed into the southbound lane near mile post 76.5 and hit a Kenworth CMV log truck with a bunked trailer around 7:45 a.m. June 22.

Though she sustained critical injuries, Howard reportedly survived the crash and was taken first by ambulance to Tillamook Regional Medical Center. Later, she was taken to Oregon Health & Science University by LifeFlight.

Howard ultimately succumbed to her injuries, police said.

The truck driver, 64-year-old Howard Edwin Rhoades of Toledo, was uninjured.

Howard's friends and family started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with expenses related to her death. As of Monday, June 25, 70 people had helped to raise $4,425 of the overall $10,000 goal.
