Premature Babies Clothed By Oregon Inmates: Report
Premature babies at Salem Hospital are kept warm this Christmas thanks to a group of female inmates.

PORTLAND, OR -- Premature babies at an Oregon hospital are kept warm this Christmas thanks to a group of female inmates. The Statesman Journal reported that Salem Hospital and the Coffee Creek Correctional Institute have partnered up to help clothe the infants.
"Preemie clothing can be difficult to find, and it isn’t functional for infants with wires and tubes attached to their fragile little bodies," the Journal reported. "In the past, NICU staff browsed local retail stores, which have limited selections, and snapped up all the preemie clothes they could."
About 150 outfits "featuring playful patterns with hearts, stars, puppies and fish" for the babies were recently brought to the hospital, the newspaper reported.

"It was an early Christmas present for the NICU staff and its 18 current patients. The NICU cares for an average of 12 babies at a given time. The number is higher now because there are multiple sets of twins," the newspaper reported.
