Texas Sex Offender Captured In Oregon

Shawn Cowan, a top 10 wanted sex offender in Texas, was arrested in Bonanza, OR, on Tuesday with his wife Rachel Guttry.

BONANZA, OR — Detectives in Klamath Falls on Tuesday arrested a married couple previously thought to be in California who are wanted in Texas for parole violations and failing to register as sex offenders.

Shawn Monroe Cowan, 43, and Rachel Ann Guttry, 46, were taken to Klamath County Jail following their arrests. The couple, originally from Beaumont, Texas, were apparently living in rural Bonanza, Oregon, under false identities when they were turned in by an unidentified informant.

Patch in early April reported that Cowan, one of the top 10 most wanted sex offenders in Texas, could be hiding in Northern California.

According to California Patch editor Autumn Johnson, "In 2011, Cowan was convicted of indecency with a child/sexual contact after an incident in Walker County, according to Texas authorities. His victim was 9 years old."

After obtaining information on Monday that Cowan and Guttry could be in Klamath County, detectives made an arrest May 8.
