Beaverton Man Gets 8 Years In Prison For Attempted Kidnapping

Robert Friesen, 28, was sentenced in Washington County last week after pleading guilty to separate 2017 incidents involving women.

BEAVERTON, OR — A 28-year-old Beaverton man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison last week after he pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual penetration and attempted kidnapping in Washington County.

Robert William Friesen, formerly known as Robert William Anderson Baker before he married, stood accused of assaulting two women in May and June 2017. According to court documents obtained by Patch, Friesen in separate incidents grabbed both a 16-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman from behind while they were walking in Beaverton.

When Friesen grabbed the 16-year-old girl, he reportedly molested her crotch with his hand before she struggled free and escaped. When he grabbed the 25-year-old woman, Friesen reportedly used a knife and threatened to kill her.

When Friesen was arrested in September 2017, he was charged with attempted kidnapping, menacing, and unlawful use of a weapon. Charges of sex abuse and attempt to commit a felony were reportedly dismissed.

Though he wasn't charged with any specific crime, police also identified Friesen as the man who asked a Beaverton High School girl if she wanted a ride while he was parked near the high school in early May, between the first and second incidents previously mentioned.

For his sexual penetration conviction, Friesen was sentenced to 100 months in prison and 20 years of post-prison supervision, along with requiring him to register as a sex offender.

For the attempted kidnapping, Friesen was sentenced to 34 months in prison and three years of post-prison supervision.

The sentences will be served concurrently.
