Beaverton Nonprofit Raises $130K For Academic Success

The Beaverton High School Success Fund, since 2014, has collected private donations to help improve what BHS has to offer its students.

BEAVERTON, OR — More than 175 people last month helped raise $130,000 for the Beaverton High School Success Fund, the most brought in during the nonprofit's annual spring fundraising event since its creation in 2014.

Established as an independent means for funding Beaverton High School's academic programs, facility improvements, and support for both students and faculty, the nonprofit Beaverton High School Success Fund (BHSSF) accepts private donations to supplement money the school already receives from the district and state, increasing the administration's ability to provide an academic setting not necessarily found in every school.

Several projects have been completed since the organization's inception four years ago and others are still ongoing. From a $110,000 investment in 2015 for new educational equipment and technology to increased resources for rapidly disappearing academic options like choir, band, and drama, BHSSF officials reportedly hope to address Beaverton High School's biggest needs.

“BHSSF is working to make a positive, meaningful impact on the lives of all BHS students by helping transform the school into a true 21st century learning environment,” BHSSF Board Vice President Joth Ricci said in a statement. “From individuals and families to local companies, the outpouring of support for the school from the community has been amazing.”

Evidence of that statement was no more apparent than in 2015 when an anonymous donor committed $3 million to the BHSSF over the following four years, allowing school officials to make investments toward academic field trips and a robotics team, scholarships and athletic fee subsidies, and infrastructure improvements throughout the school.

Now in the fourth year of its five-year plan, the BHSSF " has provided support and resources for homeless and low-income students, awarded individual scholarships and helped purchase updated technology and computers for the school," spokeswoman Darcie Meihoff said. "Additionally, BHSSF support has allowed for expanded educational pathway programs for students, including digital media, health careers and engineering."
