Beaverton Patch Contest Winners Donate Reward

Tanya Vicory and her daughter Madailein plan to donate the backpack of school supplies they won to a Beaverton student in-need.

BEAVERTON, OR — Leading up to the start of school in Beaverton this week Patch held a newsletter subscriber contest offering one family a backpack full of school supplies — everything on the supply list for Beaverton School District K-6 students. On Monday we held the drawing and are pleased to announced Tanya Vicory and her daughter Madailein as our winners.

When Patch dropped off the backpack at their home Monday afternoon, Tanya and Madailein — a sixth grader — shared their plans for the backpack and its contents: Madailein will donate all the supplies to a student in-need, she said.

"Education is important," Madailein explained. "It really does help to have the right school supplies and some kids are not able to get them."

Tanya and Madailein plan to find a local organization to help distribute the supplies, they said.

"I like the idea of helping someone feel like they have the tools to be successful," Tanya said. "They can focus on being a kid and learning instead of worrying about how they will keep up or what others think. I'm thankful that we are in a position to help someone else."
