BEAVERTON, OR — "This monster took her and I'm left with a heart shaped urn fill of ashes for the rest of my life."

Those are the words that Constance Low shared with Judge Andrew Erwin in Washington County Court. She had driven in from Molalla where she lived and where her daughter Amy had grown up.

She was talking about Norberto Nestor Muniz Jr., the man who'd been convicted of murdering Amy, just more than three years before.

Amy and Muniz had lived together in Beaverton along with a third person. Muniz had beat her to death. He then burned her body in bonfire in the backyard. Her body was so badly damaged that it took until January for detectives to fully confirm that the body had belonged to Amy.

In addition to murder, Muniz was convicted of abusing a corpse.

He told the judge that he accepted the jury's decision but said that he hadn't killed her.

Judge Erwin was not impressed with what Muniz said.

"Unfortunately, Amy's mother said it best," he told Muniz. "You left her with a heart-shaped urn full of ashes, and Mr. Muniz, you created those ashes.

"Both figurately and literally you created those ashes. You are responsible for the murder of Amy Low."

He then sentenced him to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole in 25 years.

Beaverton police had been called to 12120 SW Allen Boulevard on November 17, 2018. They found Low's body. While detectives were looking at Muniz as the suspect, it would not be until January 23 that the medical examiner informed them the body had been Amy Low.

Soon after Beaverton Police got a tip that he was in southwest Portland. With the help of the Portland Police, he was found in the area of Southwest 4th and Ankeny.

He was arrested there.
