Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- A strike seems to have been averted for nurses at Providence St. Vincent Hospital. Amelia Templeton reported on July 15 that the nurses ratified a contract with the hospital that included guarantees for meal breaks and a 16.5% wage increase over the next two years. (OPB)
- Beaverton School District educators are working hard over the summer to keep kids engaged. BSD's summer school program coordinator, Kacey Farrens, says they're making efforts to dig deeper and reach kids who may have disengaged during the school year. "We look at who hasn’t enjoyed coming to class. How do you make this something that makes them curious again?" Farren said. - Does shopping make you thirsty for beer? For those who answered yes, there's soon to be a new beer garden at Washington Square Mall. Migration Brewing made the announcement that they'll be opening a venue in the shopping center, marking July 21 as the starting line for service. (Willamette Week)
- Two new businesses are set to open before the end of the month. Salt & Straw's Cedar Hills location is set to welcome ice cream fans on July 22 (Pamplin Media Group, subscription), and you can get your basics at Basics Market in Aloha starting July 27. (Beaverton Valley Times, subscription)
