Car Explosion Arsonist Sought By Washington County Sheriff

A car explosion early Sunday in the Fred Meyer parking lot on Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway has deputies searching for answers.

BEAVERTON, OR —Take a look at the man in the picture. The Washington County Sheriff's Office says he walked up to the car's gas tank with something in his hand. Soon after, there's an explosion and the man can be seen backing away, his arm or hand apparently on fire.

It happened just before 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Several people called 911 from the parking lot of the Fred Meyer at 7700 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway in the Raleigh Hills neighborhood.

Surveillance video shows the man removing an article of clothing, which is on fire.He then walks away. The car then explodes in flames and is totally destroyed.

No one was in the car at the time and no injuries were reported.

Several detectives train in arson investigation are handling the probe. Deputies ask that anyone with information to call them at 503-846-2700.
