Car Seat Safety Clinic In Beaverton This Saturday

Beaverton police and the Safe Kids Coalition of Washington County will be at Kuni Auto Center this weekend to teach car seat safety.

BEAVERTON, OR — Officers from the Beaverton Police Department will be at Kuni Auto Center Saturday morning for a free child safety seat clinic, helping teach parents and families how to properly install and secure child safety seats.

Held in cooperation with the Safe Kids Coalition of Washington County, the child safety seat clinic will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. May 19 at 3725 S.W. Cedar Hills Blvd. in Beaverton.

No appointments or reservations are necessary, officials said. The event is drop-in, first come-first serve, with each car seat check typically taking around 30 minutes to complete.

According to Beaverton police officials, more than 1,350 kids under the age of 9 were injured in traffic crashes in Oregon in 2015. For kids between 1 and 12 years old, car crashes are the leading cause of death across the country.

"It's estimated that car seats may increase crash survival by 71 percent for infants under 1 year old, and by up to 59 percent for toddlers ages 1-4," Beaverton police officials said in a statement. "Booster seats may reduce the chance of nonfatal injury among 4- to 8-year-olds by 45 percent compared to safety belts used alone."
