Officials Seek Applicants for Beaverton Immigrant and Refugee Leadership Program
The Beaverton Organizing and Leadership Development (BOLD) program inspires community involvement.

BEAVERTON, Ore. – The City of Beaverton, in partnership with Unite Oregon, will offer a free leadership and civic engagement training for emerging immigrant and refugee leaders and leaders of color in Beaverton from March to May 2017,
Now in its fifth year, the Beaverton Organizing and Leadership Development (BOLD) program introduces participants to specific ways to become more involved in their community through local advocacy and city government. Many graduates now serve on the city’s boards and commissions and in other community leadership positions.
The program includes three Saturdays of hands-on trainings focused on strengthening cross-cultural relationships; building leadership, community organizing, and advocacy skills; and providing an in-depth introduction to city government and opportunities for engagement. Activities include sessions with city leaders and practice giving public testimony.

The BOLD program is a key strategy of the city’s cultural inclusion program to increase participation of underrepresented communities in city government.
There is no cost to participate. Applicants must live within Beaverton city limits and be available for all three training dates (March 18, April 15, and May 20). English language proficiency is not necessary; interpretation will be provided as needed.
