Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:
- Former students and family of Chef Daniel Brophy had some closure following the murder conviction of his wife, Nancy Crampton Brophy, on May 25. Now, they're preparing to hold a dinner in his honor, highlighting Brophy's life rather than his sad death. The event is scheduled for August 27 at Alumbra Cellars in Dayton. Proceeds will go to the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Beaverton. (KGW.com)
- Washington County has finally settled on a site for the planned comprehensive addiction treatment center. The facility — named the Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment — will go in at 17911 NW Evergreen Pl. in Beaverton, near the current Tanasbourne Town Center. Project staff estimates it will open sometime in 2024. (Portland Tribune, subscription)
- The family of a Hillsboro couple killed in a car accident in 2020 is suing the carmaker, Kelly Doyle reports. Wenyi Chen and Yuzhi Fei's estates allege that the Honda CRV in which they were traveling accelerated by itself — causing it to plunge into the Columbia River. The couple noticed a possible problem prior to the incident, taking the car to local service centers three times for repairs. (KOIN.com)
- An adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" is coming to the Westside. Bag & Baggage Productions, based in downtown Hillsboro, will present a version of the classic tale featuring Spanish and English dialogue starting August 11. The production 'leans into Spanish heritage,' reports Troy Shinn. It's set to run through August 28. (Portland Tribune, subscription)
- It seems like everyone is excited about the incoming Salt & Straw location near Cedar Hills Crossing. Check out KOIN.com's take on the destination's Friday opening, which will feature a splash pad, fire pit, ice cream-scented perfume and, of course, Salt & Straw's unique gourmet ice cream.
