Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. In sad news, a dog named Gazer died in Beaverton on Saturday after being left in a hot car for just over 30 minutes. Police responded to the call about the distressed animal, removed him from the vehicle and made efforts to cool off the 2-year-old German Shepherd. The owner accompanied Gazer to a veterinarian clinic, where he was euthanized. Police arrested the owner, identified as Calvin Jordan, on charges of animal abuse. (KATU)
  2. Tualatin Hills Nature Park got a shout-out from OregonLive on Saturday. Reporter Jamie Hale shared an overview of the 222-acre wildlife preserve, made special by its close proximity to the heart of Beaverton and its sense of forested seclusion despite its central location. With access via MAX, 1.5 miles of paved trails and ample parking, Hale calls it "one of the most accessible outdoor getaways in Portland’s suburbs."
  3. A car fire in Hillsboro drew firefighters to the 4200 block of SW Minter Bridge Road around 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. The flames spread to nearby brush, but the emergency responders were able to quickly douse it. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire as 'suspicious' as the individual who reported the fire said they saw someone walking away from the scene with a gas can. (KOIN.com)
  4. Oregon Brews and News shares all the local beer info that's fit to print on a weekly basis, and the most recent edition included an upcoming event in our area. The Viking Beer Fest is slated for Saturday, August 20, at Nordia House. Loyal Legion will be on hand with around 30 taps, alongside mead from Oran Mor Artisan Mead. Timberhaven Vikings, a living history and reenactment group, will be on hand, as will a 20-foot Viking ship replica, live music and more themed fun. (OregonLive)
  5. Discover the latest home offerings from the Beaverton area. This week includes a West Hills daylight ranch, a compact and adorable home in the Highlands neighborhood and a cottage-style fixer in Cedar Hills. (Beaverton Patch)
