- Portland-area Fedex is dealing with major shipping delays. Customers from all over the area have been citing delays and say they wish FedEx was more transparent on the matter. FedEx has responded saying, "FedEx Ground continues to navigate operational challenges due to constrained labor markets, increased package volume and the ongoing pandemic." (KPTV.com)
- I-84 will be closed in Portland for a weekend in October as a new pedestrian bridge goes up. The Portland Bureau of Transportation says the placement of the Blumenauer Bridge will require I-84 to be shut down in both directions for an entire weekend, beginning Oct. 8. The interstate is expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11 ahead of the morning commute. (KATU)
- Portland Parks & Recreation’s Urban Forestry Division wants residents to snag free trees to plant in their yards this fall. Portland Parks & Rec will be giving away 1,800 trees at five different events taking place this weekend through November. Anyone living within the city is eligible for up to two free trees to plant on private property. (KOIN.com)
- A four-alarm fire in SE Portland caused an abandoned warehouse to collapse at SE Alder and 9th Avenue. Firefighters called for backup when they arrived and the fire was quickly designated a fourth alarm. Deciding it was unlikely they'd be able to save the warehouse, they successfully focused their efforts on saving the two buildings on either side. (Portland Patch)
- A grand jury has found that a Portland police officer, Officer Zachary DeLong, was justified in using deadly force in the Lents Park shooting. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office announced Friday that a grand jury returned a not true bill and found the use of force that resulted in the death of 46-year-old Robert Delgado was not criminal under Oregon law. Director and Attorney for Civil Rights Project and OJRC, Juan Chavez, released a statement following the grand jury's decision, saying: "We need a process of investigation that Oregonians can have confidence in when police shoot or are otherwise violent toward members of the public."(KPTV.com)
