  1. A former Midland First United Methodist Church youth pastor, originally from Beaverton, is starting a brand-new church called ONECHURCH. John Engler is creating the church with the intent that it's for people to spiritually feed each other and help meet each other’s needs while serving God. He would like to see the church stay away from the political divide and look at ways people walk together through life. (Midland Daily News)
  2. Ashley Hartmeier-Prigg won the runoff for a Beaverton City Council seat. Hartmeier-Prigg claimed a narrow win over Jerome Sibayan. Hartmeier-Prigg and Sibayan were vying for Position 1, which was left vacant by freshman Mayor Lacey Beaty. (Pamplin Media Group)
  3. A run in Beaverton raised money for childhood cancer research this weekend. The Sam Day Buddy Run is a 12 mile run named after a 15-year-old boy who passed away from cancer a week before his freshman year at Sunset High School in 2016. As of Sept. 24, participants have already raised over $60,000. (KGW.com)
  4. Thousands of Portland High School students marched to City Hall on Friday to Call for Climate Justice. The march was part of a Global Youth Climate Strike organized by Fridays for the Future, an organization started by Greta Thunberg. This was the first major climate march since Sept. 2019, in which an estimated 7.6 million demonstrators participated globally. (Willamette Week)
  5. Police have identified the man who was killed in a shooting at a NW Portland pizza restaurant as 34-year-old Jacob Knight-Vasquez. Just before 2 a.m., officers were called out to a report of a shooting in the 500 block of Northwest 21st Avenue at the Silver Dollar Pizza Co. Detectives do not believe Knight-Vasquez was the intended target. (KPTV.com)
