Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. On Wednesday, a Tigard man was shot and killed as he traveled Highway 18 northeast of Otis near the Oregon coast. Dennis Anderson, 45, was heading home to Tigard with his partner of 18 years, Brandy Goldsbury, when he was shot by a man at a rest stop in a car they had passed earlier. The shooter fled the scene, and police have not arrested anyone in connection with the incident. (OregonLive)
  2. Washington County officials are considering asking voters to ban psilocybin treatment and manufacturing facilities in the county for two years in the November elections. The decision comes in response to the state not yet issuing the rules that the facilities will have to abide by, leaving county land use planners in a lurch. The Oregon Health Authority is planning on issuing rules in August or September this year. (Valley Times with a Washington County library card; Valley Times with a subscription)
  3. Emily Paulson took her turn at bat in Walker Stadium during a recent Pickles game. Paulson, who is a former Tigard High School baseball standout and a current Western Washington University softball player, became the first woman to play in a Portland Pickles game. Paulson is working as an intern for the Pickles this summer and suited up at the request of her boss, Pickles General Manager Ross Campbell. (Valley Times with a library card; Valley Times with a subscription.)
  4. Beaverton has its share of outstanding restaurants, and we all have our opinion about these things. PDX Monthly shares its favorites, from Lima for Peruvian plates to Siam Lotus for tantalizing Thai. Even if you disagree with the choices, don’t you want to see if your favorite made the list?
  5. Trailblazer Damian Lillard held another of his youth basketball camps in Beaverton on Wednesday. As usual, the camp was well attended. In this video from the NBA, Lillard talks about why he runs these camps every summer. (Twitter)

From my notebook:

  • Migration Brewery is opening a pop-up beer garden at Washington Square beginning at noon today. That’s right, and it’s going to be indoors too so you won’t broil in the sun. The pop-up will be open seven days a week through the end of the year.
  • Exotic saffron is coming to the Beaverton Farmers Market on Saturday. Look for Cyrus Saffron, a company created by a German and Iranian couple who farm in Chelan, Washington. This week the market also will have whole duck, Hermiston watermelon and lots and lots of berries.

That’s all I have for you today. Tomorrow Ash DeMello will return with the latest and greatest, so you can always be well informed. Thanks for joining me today.
