Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. A rollover crash closed a section of roadway near the Five Oaks neighborhood Friday afternoon. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Beaverton Police responded to the scene. Neither agency had released the cause of the accident or any injuries as of the time of publication. (KPTV.com)
  2. Two Beaverton organizations made the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality's penalty list, the agency reported on Friday. The Tualatin Valley Water District received a fine of $7,200 for water quality violations, and Cooper Mountain Vineyards, LLC, received a $5,640 fine for a violation involving wastewater. The two were among eight organizations to receive penalties in June, with the highest fine going to Canby's ICON Construction & Development LLC, fined $114,089 for construction stormwater violations.   3. After push back from a shareholder advocacy group, managers at Beaverton's Nike said they're committing to releasing hiring data for women and minority groups, reports Trey Williams. Around 35% of Nike shareholders responded favorably to prompting the company to release the data to ensure the apparel giant's social and racial justice marketing themes correspond to its business practices. Nike joins more than 80 other corporate giants in the move. (Fortune)
  4. A jury found Job Cuesta Pozos of Beaverton guilty of seven counts of first-degree sexual abuse on Wednesday, July 27, according to the office of the Washington County District Attorney. The charges were brought in response to two victims who communicated with Beaverton Police in 2020. (Washington County DA)
  5. Beaverton is host to a number of the top-rated ice cream places in the Metro area, according to Yelp, Kaitlin Flanigan reports. Number 7 on the list was Ooo Nobibi, based in the West End District — which yields accolades for its unique menu and cute decor. Handel's Homemade Ice Cream situated on Cornell also made the list, as did Ome Calli Frozen Treats, which earned praise for serving authentic-tasting Southeast Asian flavors and generous portions.
