- A Beaverton mailbox played a major role in the defrauding of a Louisiana university, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Parviz Sharifrazi, 70, used the Beaverton address (and others around the country) as a shell company to defraud the school of around $150,000, issuing false equipment requests and laundering money through it. Sharifrazi was convicted and sentenced to 24 months for his crimes earlier this week. (Department of Justice)
- The Rummer homes of Garden Home's Bohmann Park area and Beaverton’s Oak Hills neighborhood sell quickly these days, often for more than asking price. The builder behind the 1960s and 70s icons, Robert Rummer himself, now 95 and living in Woodburn, said he's ready to build some more. Find out more about the legendary builder and his keys to success via Janet Eastman's article. (OregonLive)
- An up-and-coming artist recently made Beaverton his home, according to an interview with Delila Brent. Artist Julian Gaines, famous for, among other things, a New York Magazine cover called "Karen(s)," has worked out of a Forest Grove studio for three years. Now, he has his first solo exhibition in Oregon at Portland's Russo Lee Gallery, called "Under the Flag." Find out more about Gaines' work and the messages behind it at Portland Monthly.
- Beaverton’s House Representative Suzanne Bonamici and two other members of congress visited the area on Tuesday, examining Oregon’s approach to the climate crisis. On their tour, they viewed Beaverton School District and TriMet buses that run along Murray Boulevard that run on electricity. One of Representative Bonamici's companions, Representative Kathy Castor of Florida, stated that the trip comes as Congress is "poised to take another historic step in the most historic investment ever in climate change and energy innovation."
